Founded in 2010 by CFDA Award winning Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, Instagram has become one of the best real-time applications in the online game.

The Facebook-owned social networking platform announced that it will be improving its search function and explore features as it fights to remain the go-to app for the fashion crowd. Its latest version, Instagram 7.0, which is now available for Android and iOS devices, has become immediate and effortless.

The new Explore enables users to surface trends as they emerge in real-time, which is similar to Twitter and connects them to events and conversations both near them and around the globe. Critics and pundits believe the these two areas have consistently been described as lackluster. At the top of the revamped Explore page, users will see interesting accounts and places, from musicians and extreme athletes to stunning architecture and gorgeous beaches.

The move is to enrich the connections between Instagram‘s 300-plus million users and the developing need for more sponsored content. Within trending tags and places, there is an option to see the most liked and recent images and video. With the new Places Search, interested parties can now look at about any location on the Planet Earth. From potential vacation spots in the South Pacific to crisp views of wine country, Napa Valley, you can see beauty from end to end of the globe.

Meanwhile, the new Top Search lets users search across people, places and tags all at once.

Every day, 70 million photos and videos are posted to the platform, as its growth has surpassed its parent company by 20 percent since 2013. The application’s update could move Instagram into more relevancy as a real-time platform. Twitter already has the number one mark in that regards since its recent update. More users are relying on Twitter for their news and trending topics than actual news sites. Similar to Twitter’s trending hashtags, Instagram has created its own way of aggregating its most popular content and presenting it to the community.

Before the update, Instagram‘s search functionality was incredibly limited. Users were only allowed to search by name or hashtag, which made it really easy to miss content that might be of interest. The search update is now available worldwide, and the explore page will only roll out in the U.S. to start.
