#LFW Runway Recap: Julien Macdonald Goes A Little Dominatrix For Fall 2015

One must never forget that Julien Macdonald came from Isabella Blow’s clan. You know the one. The group of designers that the socialite and fashion editor hand picked and helped to push and mold their careers. The designers that she weaseled into photoshoots, helped to broker relationships for and went up to bat for numerous times. MacDonald is from that clan. A clan that enjoyed their creativity being fostered and sometimes their costs being subsidized — as much as possible given her own resources — by the late Blow and as a result came out the better for it. A clan that included the likes of Philip Treacy, Hussein Cyalayan and most prominently Alexander McQueen. MacDonald is of that clan.

But of course each of that clan is different than the other — in fact McQueen used Treacy for the hats in his runway shows and sometimes tapped MacDonald for the knitwear. Julien’s woman cuts a sexy figure against any backdrop she steps on. Her first appointment of the day? Likely cocktails at five in any number of her slinky dress options. Her preferred silhouette? Her own of course! And her version of less is more? Only appropriate when less material means more skin.

That woman likely has been reading a bit of Fifty Shades of Grey for the past few weeks, her sartorial choices infusing a bit of S&M into it. Chokers, leather gloves, sheer fabrics that remind one of lingerie and cutouts that nod to the idea of cages are all a part of the look. Strappy heels eschew dainty and go for thick leather straps a la bondage and even the shredded tassels of a silver metallic come off a little cat of nine tails, whip like.  Watch out boys, the devil is in the details.
