#MFW Runway Recap: Prada Resort 2016 Great Rush

There’s a lot that goes on at a Prada men’s show. There are the treats — this season there were Negronis as well as i.e. follies and whipped Percorino — there’s the models — this season with their curly, disheveled hair and always with their incredibly thin figures — and then there’s the women. Yes, women. Miuccia Prada has taken to showing her menswear collections right alongside her womenswear resort collections on the runway.

The result sometimes speaks a versatility in pieces though it always speaks to a similarity in inspiration points. This season that point had to do with rabbits.

OK, maybe that’s a tad bit of an overstatement, the inspiration didn’t have to do with rabbits as much as rabbits had to also do with this idea of a hurried, go-go-go, lifestyle that was definitely central to this season’s look. That disheveled hair we spoke of earlier, part of that look! Other icons like race cars, rockets and clothing seemingly thrown on; all ingredients in Prada’s soup for the season.

Miuccia pushed it a little with the shorts. With hems hitting the top of the thigh, some done in a leatherette and others with contrasting stitching, they were certainly a look that’s going to grab quite a few eyes. For the ladies, that same sort of leg baring comes available with short, fabric spliced dresses, a striped pattern here and a repeating, pixelated eye motif there.

For us some of the strongest points were the most familiar. Tank tops for guys with utilitarian zips felt a little like what Patrik Ervell has been doing for quite a few seasons — as well as the zip shoulder pockets on the standout outerwear for the season — while for the girls pleated dresses with their demure, knee length hems seems of definite intrigue.
