#NYFW Runway Recap: Hood By Air Fall 2015 Modern Mall Goth

Hood by Air’s Shayne Oliver is on a mission to rid gender-specific garments. He delves deeper into the blurring between the lines with his Fall 2015 collection that focuses on wardrobe staples for both males and females in a way that is neither too inviting nor too threatening. Oliver succeeds in this mission. Ridding overt gimmicks, the clothes got to take center stage, and viewers had the opportunity to really appreciate the subtle genius in his design.

With light BDSM and their signature alien-esque aesthetic, HBA fully takes on the modern mall goth. Wide leg JNCO-like pants complete with buckles and chains evoke memories of the loiterers outside Hot Topic. These aren’t your 13-year-old, puce shell-wearing JNCOs though, Oliver presents them in a way that makes you want to adopt the silhouette again, ASAP.

Then there was the fur. Especially on the frigid day and in the cold abandoned bank vault HBA showed their collection, the voluminous fur statement coats were the biggest takeaway from the collection. Especially the final look, styled with an HBA scarf around the midsection, the label’s appeal has expanded its scope.
