“I wasn’t going to pull my hair up into a man bun without asking [wife] Hayley [Stommel] first!” the Florida Georgia Line singer tells PEOPLE of his wedding day do.

And his bride was all for it. “I loved it!” says Stommel. “It took my breath away to see him standing there with his hair pulled back. He looked amazing, so handsome.”

The two wed July 1 in Trail Creek Cabin in Sun Valley, Idaho, with the bride wearing a Monique Lhuillier gown and the groom in an all-white ensemble of his own.

As for the rest of Hubbard’s look — “classy rockstar action” — as he describes it, the singer knew a classic tux wouldn’t cut it.

“We just wanted to keep it who I was, but also just casual and not over the top,” says Hubbard. “It needed to represent me and also be comfortable and it did,” he says of the white jeans and shirt paired with a white leather Smart Range vest his stylist, Gina Ketchum, found for him in London.

And unlike the man bun, Hubbard’s outfit was a surprise to the bride. “If she won’t show me hers, I’m not showing her mine,” he told PEOPLE before the wedding.
