Why Does Amal Clooney Keep Wearing John Galliano?

It is worth restating at the offset: Amal Clooney is chic! She is and has been for quite a while. But now, with the added visibility of being the wife of an A-list Hollywood veteran that had been one of Hollywood’s longest-running most eligible bachelors, that fact is all too clear.

The thing is Clooney is also a smart woman. So yes, we take things at face value but we also are cognizant of the intelligent choices she makes, as in the case of Stella McCartney, the sustainable, cruelty-free minded designer. So for some, Clooney’s choice to wear John Galliano for Margiela not once but twice, is a big deal.

It’s more than a big deal in fact for a certain group of people, it’s a problem. Human rights lawyer wears disgraced designer who has made racist statements is the most succinct way of putting it. Is Clooney attempting to say something? Is she attempting to stand behind Galliano’s rehabilitation? Is this just another way of her attempting to get close to Anna Wintour who is famously a Galliano supporter?

Some think it’s a lot easier than that. Reports are surfacing that in fact, Clooney’s sometimes-stylist is Alex Roche. And though that name may not sound familiar to you, the guy who has put together looks for the likes of Kendall Jenner, Uma Thurman and Marillon Cotillard, is the longtime partner of Galliano. So it’s sort of easy for one to imagine him packing her racks with things from the label as they could be easily available to him. Honestly though, we’d think Amal was a little bit more of a conscious chooser than that.

Why is it important? Because she’s a style star and we know how well a key figure can bring a brand to prominence. And if Clooney is to be that for Margiela by Galliano, shouldn’t she be aware of the connotations that brings with it?
