Disco Fever in this Season’s Ready-to-Wear
This year’s best runway collections have caught Disco Fever, and they’ve got it bad.
Yes, you heard it right! Bell-bottoms and psychedelic prints are in while skinny jeans and monochrome are on their way out. So grab your rose-tinted sunglasses and dust off your platform boots because the seventies are back in full force this season.
Music was a big part of seventies culture and fashion. Rock ‘n’ roll thrived at the beginning of the decade, where leather jackets, ankle boots and baby tees were the go-to outfits for rock ‘n’ roll artists. The end of the seventies saw the rise of disco as well as flared pants, psychedelic prints and sky-high platforms. Both of these styles became a part of the basic dress code for the era and now have influenced many of the top designers’ Spring Summer 2015 collections.
One of the most well known trends from the seventies is the Bohemian look. The free-spirited style is having a serious moment right now. Collections of breezy prairie dresses, menswear inspired vests and knee high boots are grazing the runways and sending a festival ready vibe. In contrast to the flower child aesthetic, the more refined power suit has also found its way back into fashion. From feminine skirt sets to bold blazers paired with flared trousers, the seventies suit is a must-have for any It girl.
Whether you’re a rock ‘n’ roll chick, boogying at the disco, taking center seat at a boardroom or planning to spend all summer barefoot at a festival––there’s a look for you.
