Today’s up & comer is Chicago born and Miami living stylist Geneva Bell aka Gen Bell.  After having a bunch of different gigs, she realized that fashion was her true calling and now you can see her work in videos from superstars like J. Lo and Pitbull.
Although she is a newbie, she has already built up a  sound stable of clients that she lends her style expertise to key individuals in the South Florida community in film, fashion and music.
We sent Gen a few questions to get the scoop on how she got started:
StyleBlazer: When did you become interested in fashion?
Gen Bell: I’ve always been interested in fashion. Just like most girls, I first started paying close attention to the latest fashion trends in junior high. Once I became an adult, I was determined to have a career in fashion in some shape or form.
SB: What were you doing before styling?
GB: A little bit of this and a little bit of that. I’ve worked for the federal government, been a freelance writer, and I’ve even been a flight attendant. However, nothing has been more fulfilling for me than working in fashion. I feel like a kid in a candy store every time I walk into stores like Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdales.

SB: When did you decide to launch your own independent styling/wardrobing services?
GB: Five years ago! There was a lot of trial and error but I survived and didn’t let anything deter me. I’d be lying if I said it was easy but the tough times were most definitely worth every single second. I wouldn’t trade my experience in for anything in the world. Well, maybe a million dollars (laughs).
SB: What is your favorite part of the job?
GB: Let me tell you, I absolutely love a happy and satisfied client. Especially the difficult ones! You know, the ones that are so extremely picky about every single little detail that they make you want to say, “You know what, I have a great stylist friend of mine that would probably suit you better.” I have yet to give up on a client because honestly, deep down inside, I love a challenge. And hearing a client, that has been very difficult to please on every level, say to you, “Wow! I’m impressed. You nailed it!” Well, there’s just no greater feeling that than.
SB: What/who has been your most fun client(s)? Or your most memorable project so far?
GB: Great question! One of my current clients, Katie Steel, has been one of my most fun clients to date. She’s a young recording artist and pretty soon the whole world is going to know who she is. I love her positive energy and and admire her work ethic. I’ve been working with her for years so to see her grow into the young lady that she is today and know that I’ve contributed to that, is such rewarding experience. How often do you get to say that you knew someone before they were super famous? Mark my words, I’ll be saying that very soon!

SB: What do you have planned next?
GB: Well, I can’t give too many details but let’s just say that if you want some exclusive deals on some of your favorite designers be sure to like my fan page because I’ll be having some goodies coming your way very soon!
