We’re Beauty Crushin’ On… Nitty Scott MC

Meet Nitty Scott MC. She’s down to earth, drop dead gorgeous and can rap with the best of ’em, as evidenced by last year’s gnarly The Art Of Chill

The female rap landscape carries its fair share of challenges; whether it be camaraderie between artists, maintaining the delicate balance between lyrical talent and sex appeal and/or the listener’s (sometime) reluctance to embrace music outside the go-to mainstream successes.

Nitty, who has been making music since her teens, is adept to the ever evolving rap game and has already seen the shift in her burgeoning career.

“I think the role of record labels and artist development has totally changed. Most labels don’t invest in fully developing artists anymore; the internet has made it so that records, music videos and collective movements can take off organically without much backing or marketing at all,” she tells us.

“I think it’s empowering for indie artists who can express themselves freely on an open platform; but it also created a climate where artists who are nowhere near developed are getting huge deals because their video has a million views – no one is sure if they’ve mastered their sound, if their image is established, if they can consistently deliver singles or a solid body of work, but they rush to sign them anyway.”

Beyond her industry smarts, this saucy Latina–who has everyone from Future to Kehlani and Spooky Black on her fall playlist–is a mainstay on our Instagram feed, where she masters the art of being a style chameleon. From curve hugging matching sets to loose fitting street wear, the girl slays in just about anything, thanks to an unapologetic confidence that speaks louder than any photo caption.

“I dress and style myself according to whatever mood I’m in, or what the vibe of something calls for. I have a very flexible idea of myself, so if I feel like a blue-haired alien this week, I’m totally going to reflect that,” she says. “Some styles are protective, such as braids and twists, which work great for naturalistas like myself. Other looks are just quick to do, like two fun buns or some wild, effortless curls.”

We’re impatiently waiting for her next project, due sometime later this year, but in the meantime, learn more about our beauty crush below and check out Nitty’s music here!

SB Beauty Quiz

If my personality were a lipstick shade it would be called: “BAE-BERRY. It would be pink-ish purple, and scented!”
My luxe beauty indulgence is: “…Hair more than anything else. Oils, products and treatments, accessories. I can literally invent things to need on my head.”
My affordable beauty indulgence is: “My eyebrows. They’re cheap, but so important! And I personally love my thick, defined, very Latina brows. I get them either threaded or waxed by my homegirl at a local salon.”
Glammed Up or Au Naturale? “Both. I’m one of those girls who has no problem stepping out or taking a photo totally makeup-free; I feel so wavy in my own skin. But I also love to enhance what is already there. I see makeup as facial art; the different moods you can evoke by playing with textures, colors and shades is pretty amazing. And for some reason, applying eyeliner always makes me feel like royalty, like I’m practicing an ancient beauty regimen used by Egyptian queens or something. Ha!”
The best piece of beauty advice I’ve ever gotten is: “I guess it was being made aware of the long-term effects of the some of the chemicals you can find in popular beauty products. Learning to choose products that are sulfate and paraben free, for example, really made a difference.”
Three Items I Always Keep In My Purse Are: “Burt’s Bee’s Coconut and Pear Chapstick (or Vaseline Rosy Lip Therapy Balm), baby wipes and a lighter … for birthday cakes of course ;)”
My hair crush is: “Definitely the twins Cipriana and Takenya Quann. Have you seen their heads?! And I’d also have to say Rihanna, because it seems she can literally compliment any color, cut or combination. Funky styles, sleek glamour, round-the-way looks; she slays them all.”
